1 Timothy 4:13 "Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine."

Some Christians are guilty of neglecting the Word of God and they're guilty of making excuses as to why they don’t read it…“I just don’t understand what I’m reading.”

1 John 5:12: "He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life." That’s not hard too understand, is it?

Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." How about that? Is that too hard to understand?

Yes, of course, some of the Bible can be hard to understand, but the truth is that most of Bible is very straightforward and easy to understand…if we just read it.

"But, I don’t like to read”.

Do you like to eat? 1 Corinthians 3:2 says "I have fed you with milk, and not with solid food: for until now you were not able to bear it, neither yet now are you able."

Hey, if I put a T-Bone steak in front of you and you say “No, thanks, I don’t like it”, say no more! I'll take it! And I'll show you what a knife & fork are for!

You see, the Bible is our spiritual food and if you want to suck on a baby bottle the rest of your life be my guest, but as for me, I’ll take the meat!

“It’s boring and I fall asleep when I read it.”

First of all, DON'T read it right before bedtime…also if you think a Book which is a communication and a revelation to you from the Eternal Creator of the Universe, the One Who stretches out the heavens themselves, the God Who knows all and is all…if you think a Book that He’s written JUST FOR YOU is boring... then I really worried about your spiritual condition!

As a kid moving back and forth from the States to Germany, in every airport we sat in my mom always told me, "Son, only boring people get bored!" Listen, the Bible isn’t boring...PEOPLE are boring! The Bible is a supernatural Book and contains God’s power for salvation, life and all godliness and He’s given it to us to read! Does that sound boring to you? Not to me!

“I don’t have time to read the Bible”.

Did you find time to eat? To watch TV? Surf the Web? Play Video Games? Listen, if you’re time is very limited, then it’s even MORE crucial that you to redeem the time that you DO have! What redeeming value can you place on your time?

Some Christians have a hard time with Bible reading because they haven’t disciplined themselves to do so. Let me try and place in your hands a very do-able reading plan. One that you can become disciplined in keeping, day after day, month after month and year after year.

Now, I found on the Internet a Four year Bible Reading Plan. FOUR YEARS to read the entire Bible! That amounts to reading about less than a page a day.

I have to ask: How much do you have to HATE something to ONLY WANT to do it ONCE every 4 years? Four years to read The Book?! You know, this wonderful, great Holy Book Christians claim to revere and love? Four years??? Sorry, but I think that’s disgraceful.

I think every Christian could easily read, at the minimum, 10 pages a day. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to read 10 pages of ANYTHING and please don't tell me that you don't have 15-20 minutes a day to spare...10 pages a day would put you through the average size Bible once EVERY 132 days! That’s about 2 ½ times a year and that’s not bad! That’s not bad and that’s not unreasonable either.

Here's the simplest & best reading plan in my opinion. Read 10 pages a day and a Proverb for the day (because there's 31 and most months have...30 or 31 days).

If you do that you will get you through the Bible 2 ½ times a year and Proverbs 12 times a year. I like to do that, but I also do something else that I’ve found to be VERY beneficial. I also like to listen to the Bible.

How many of you have a job where you can either listen to a mp3 player, iPod or cd player? If you do then I strongly recommend that you get the Bible either downloaded or on cd.

I listen to 15 chapters of the OT and 5 chapters of the NT every day. "Oh, but you're a pastor you can do that..." I was bi-vocational for the last 10 years and I did it when I worked full time in Insurance too.

Listening to 20 chapters takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes of listening time. What this does is it allows me to LISTEN through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation 4 ½ times a year! That’s 20 chapters, 5 days a week.

When I add that to my 10 pages of reading a day which takes me through 2 ½ times a year, I’m literally going through the Bible 7 times a year between listening and reading. And that’s not too bad for a little over hour a day of reading and listening is it?

Do you realize how much you can learn about God and how much you can learn that’s NEW each and every time you go through the Bible? It’s amazing and it's exciting! I'll NEVER get bored with it!

1 Timothy 4:13 says to give attendance to READING…are you doing that? If not, start today...it'll change your life.
