Revelation 4:8-11 "And the four living creatures had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come. And when those living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him that sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, The four and twenty elders fall down before him that is sitting on the throne, and worship him that lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for you have created all things, and for your pleasure they are and were created."
This says that these heavenly creatures “rest not day and night”…what’s that mean? They rest not day or night…that means this praise and worship of Our Creator, our God goes on uninterrupted and continues forever and ever.
It goes on over and over and over and it continues on and on and on... it doesn’t stop. It goes on during the day and during the night. No matter what’s happening here on earth and no matter what's happening in our lives, this praise and worship continues in Heaven nonstop.
What that tells me is that contrary to popular opinion, the universe does not revolve around us! The focus of Heaven is not on us…it’s on God. We may like to think about when we arrive into Heaven how all of our loved ones who went on before us, our friends, the Apostle Peter and all the Angels, we think of them as being lined up to greet us and welcome us in! And they’re all waiting just to say “Welcome, it’s so good to see you, we’re all so glad that you’ve finally arrived…”
What if...what if we arrived in Heaven and there WAS indeed that great cloud of witnesses standing there…but what if...ALL of them had their backs turned and they’re all facing the Throne of God? Is that how we picture it?
Listen, when we arrive in Heaven God is the One Who will get all of the attention, you can be sure of that! God is the One Who will get all of the praise, all of the glory; God is the center of attention not us! We, as humans, have a tendency to think that everything should stop for us.
For example, there was a 3 Star General who was speaking and addressing a large auditorium of Officers and as he was speaking a Junior Officer walked through the doors. Now, understand, his late entry already was not in keeping with proper PROTCOL, but he entered into the auditorium anyway.
At first, no one noticed him except the General and he continued making his remarks anyway, but the Junior Officer walked all the way across the auditorium and then began walking along the wall directly toward the front. Now, of course, the closer he got to the front, the more distracting he became and all of the other officers began to notice him.
So, the 3 Star just kept talking and then that young officer continued approaching until he came all the way up to the front and then he stepped up onto the platform and began walking toward the 3 Star General.
At this point, the General is thinking: “I hope he really enjoyed the sunlight today because it’s going to be a long time before he sees it again.”
The Junior Officer walked right up to the General with a little slip of paper in his hand…now, it doesn’t matter what YOU might think is important, what YOU might think is important when a 3 Star General is speaking is most likely NOT all that important in that moment.
But, he walked up to the General with the folded piece of paper anyway and he interrupted him by handing it to him. The General was irritated, but even so, he took the piece of paper and opened it up…he read it and looked up at the men he was addressing and said “Gentlemen, you are dismissed. We are at war.” That General had just received the announcement that the First Gulf War had begun.
The point of this story is that you DO NOT interrupt a 3 Star General ever...however, there are some things that rise to the level of such importance that he must be interrupted, like declarations of war.
In Revelation when these four living creatures are speaking and when the 24 elders are casting their crowns at Jesus’ feet, you need to know that there’s NOTHING that rises to the level of importance as to interrupt that! Nothing will ever stop that worship and praise!
"And they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."
Then the 24 elders cast their crowns at His feet…and what do they say? "You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for you have created all things, and for your pleasure they are and were created."
This adoration goes on day and night…day and night...day and night...and understand this...there is no note on a piece of paper that will EVER stop this worship and praise! There’s NOTHING happening here on Earth that is more important than the worship and praise of God Almighty!
We think we are so important and we think what’s happening here is so important! We think when something happens, when there are problems here on Earth that all of Heaven should stop…God Himself should stop and focus His attention upon us.
This is man-centered thinking…man-centered thinking thinks that whenever something bad happens to us that all of Heaven should stop what they are doing and that God Himself should step down from His Throne and make everything alright.
I'm never ceased to be surprised by unbelievers and Christians alike who live like the world, do as they please regardless of what God says about it, but as soon as they face a real problem they think they can just send a little note up to God and interrupt what’s going on in Heaven and then God is supposed to run down here and take care of everything for them!
They actually think that this Heavenly Worship should stop for them! They actually think that "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come" should stop FOR THEM.
They think that the 24 elders should get up from their prostrate position before the King and that they stop praising Him, that they should turn their focus away from Him and focus on them!
If Heaven is focused on God day and night, then perhaps INSTEAD of being focused on ourselves day and night, maybe we should be focused on Him day and night as well?
Perhaps when the trouble comes or problems arise, instead of trying to interrupt the worship that’s taking place in Heaven, instead of expecting all of Heaven and for God to stop and drop what they’re doing to run to your aide, perhaps…you should join them.
Perhaps we should fall to our knees along with those 24 elders and join them by saying, "You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for you have created all things, and for your pleasure they are and were created."
Often, we think that worship should stop for us, but here's the thing... it’s not going to…it will not stop for our problems ever because we are supposed to join them in worship. We are supposed praise and worship God in the midst of the storm. We should not want to interrupt this but rather we should want to join in and attach ourselves to this Holy privilege!
Run to the Glassy Sea and to the Throne of Grace, bow your heads and hearts in prayer and with high praises of worship, honor and glorify the King...shift your focus to where it belongs, seek Him first...and then all other things shall be added unto you!
GO BLESS, BRATS!
